Barnegat Bay Fishing ( Lower )

Category: Barnegat Bay

" ICW BB Buoy " marks the entrance to the Forked River.

" ICW BI Buoy " marks the entrance to Oyster Creek Channel.

" ICW 42 Buoy " marks the Double Creek Channel.

Eastern Flats:

Areas " A7, A10, A15, and A21 " along the length of the West Side of Island Beach State Park allow you to park and access the Barnegat Bay. All of these areas have well marked paths so there is no chance of getting lost. The bayside of the Island offers plenty of wading opportunities away from the strong winds and pounding surf. Wade out onto the flats to the edge of a drop-off to fish or approach the Flats by boat from the West.

This extensive array of flats can be very productive particularly in the early part of the spring as they warm quickly from the sun's rays. Here you will find some of the first stripers and weakfish of a new season. As May rolls around a good population of bluefish will invade their warmer waters that will aggressively strike out at any top water lures.
